09/08/2023 Luckily tobacco hornworms did not become a major issue in Southern Piedmont this year. It is worth to recognize the presence of a parasitic (parasitoid) braconid wasps in our fields! the below photo is an infested hornworm carrying the wasp eggs (mostly hatched).

07/07/23 Pest or no Pest? No this not a pest; The pink spotted lady beetle, Coleomegilla maculata, is a beneficial species that can help with controlling various pests in fields and gardens.

5/19/23 Flea beetles are move on the in Nottoway County. Untreated transplanted tobacco may be affected; time to scout fields.
